This unique antique French Art Nouveau Scarab beetle brooch was made during the Victorian era, Circa 1900.

The wonderful brooch displays a stunning large green scarab beetle with a shimmering natural shell which is simply magnificent.

Scarabs were popular symbols in Ancient Egypt and represented renewal and regeneration. In the 1820’s King Tutankhamen’s tomb was discovered in Egypt and brought new interest to Scarab jewellery which was worn as a good luck charm across Europe.

The beetle is set upon a fancy French Silver gallery which is made in the Art Nouveau style.

Art Nouveau was an international art style that was popular across Europe between 1890 and 1910. Art Nouveau jewellery drew it’s inspiration from the flowing organic patterns of plants and nature and paved the way for the Art Deco style.

This is a most unusual antique brooch, a great talking piece and highly collectable!
